9.3 Concluding remarks

After Robert T. Morris released the Internet Worm onto the Internet, many supporters claimed he was pointing them to a community that would otherwise not have listened. More than ten years after the incident, a large population of the Internet community is still careless about security concerns. It seems Morris' supporters may have been right. However it seems the Internet community is still not paying attention, even after what is hailed as the ``point of enlightenment'' in computer security.

There is a widespread belief that information is power. We have even called our current age the ``Information Age''. Security problems pose a question which demands an answer to those who are part of the infomation age, ``How important is your information to you ?'' As actions speak louder than words, the security mechanisms we put into place answer this question more accurately than any excuse we give.
